DIARY
Day 12
Hey there, back again already? It's our last day in Vietnam and guess what....., yep that's right we are off shooting today! The taxi ride was long 2.5 hours over to the Cu Chi tunnels, but it turns out it was a pretty interesting trip - we got to see how the Vietnamese gorillas fought the war against the Americans, making booby traps and living underground while the Americans had technology and weapons of mass destruction on their side (ahem). The tunnels were tiny and extremely cramped but the Vietnamese people are very small so manage to live, work and fight from them successfully, fairly amazing stuff really.
And of course I got to shoot guns too! Yipppppeeeee. We tried out a AK47 first, this one had a lot of backlash to it and nearly took my shoulder out, Leon said I should stop being a wimp and shoot some more so I had a couple of more goes but in the end let Leon finish up my bullets. We did think I was going to have an amazing war bruise as I had red marks and it was a bit sore but nothing has appeared :(
Next up was an M60 (machine gun) this bad boy was awesome! You hold your finger on the trigger and it pops the bullets out automatically and was much easier on the shoulder, so if I'm ever called upon to fight this would be my weapon on choice. After another 3 hour taxi ride we are back home on the boat.
I had a slight panic today has I thought I'd lost my purse with money and credit card inside but actually when I was tidying up our room the night before for some weird reason I'd packed it away in a drawer - that was relief to find it.
Thanks to Jas for your email with the info on Saigon/white shirted man - most useful...., and I've got you a present as promised too :)
We had a full dinner table tonight, the South African family and the lesbian couple are all back, that was nice to see everyone again.
We are at sea tomorrow so don't expect to much in a way of update as I will mostly be chilling out. Also sorry for the lack of photos still I haven't been able to find any free/better wifi but if all else fails ill update once we get to our hotel in Singapore.
Good night then xx
